Say goodbye to manually turning legal text (such as conditions precedent) into a Word table.

With our legal text importer, your legal text can be transformed into a perfectly formatted list in minutes.

You can try it out with our sample documents!

How to use the legal text importer

Before you start using this feature, make sure you add two free text columns into your list.

1. Click 'import' in the blue navigation bar of any list and select "Legal text"

2. Copy the text you want to import and paste it into the import box

⚠️ Note

  • Only 500 lines of text can be imported at a time.

  • Your work is not saved until your text is imported

3. Select where in the list the text should be added to, then press "Next".

4. Edit the text you have imported

✔️ You can also:

  • Repeat text from a header into sub-rows beneath it: By selecting "Repeat text" from the dropdown menu in the "Structure" column. This will repeat the text from a header row into the sub-rows beneath it.

  • Split rows by definition: By selecting the defined term Legatics has identified (eg Obligor), or by adding a new defined term. Once you have defined a term, Legatics will remember the definition for later.

  • Include/exclude rows: By toggling the 'Include' button on/off. Excluded items will be in red strike through.

  • Merge rows: By selecting "Merge list" from the dropdown menu in the "Structure" column. This will merge all sub-text into the header level text above.

  • Change the leading text: By hovering over a sub-heading and clicking on the pencil icon, you can change the leading text of the rows below. For example, the items below were changed from 'a resolution' to 'a copy of the resolution' by editing the highlighted line.

    5. Import your text

If you are happy with the structure, click 'Submit' and select the free-text columns where:

  1. The clause references should be inserted

  2. The text should be inserted

Finally, click 'Import' to import to your list.

3. Once your checklist is imported a pop-up message will appear at the top right corner saying that 'Legal text imported'.
