Model Context Protocol use cases

Discover what your artificial intelligence assistant can do with live Legatics data

The Legatics Model Context Protocol server connects artificial intelligence assistants, such as Claude, Harvey, Legora and Copilot, to your live transaction data. Rather than copying information into a prompt, you can ask your assistant about a matter and it will answer using what's in Legatics right now. Where your firm allows it, your assistant can also make updates on your behalf.

This article explains what your assistant can read and write, the benefits of each, and how lawyers in different practice areas put them to use.

Why connect your assistant to Legatics?

Without a connection, an assistant only knows what you paste into it. That means copying information out of Legatics, checking it's current and repeating the exercise every time things change. With the connection in place, your assistant works from the same live data you see in Legatics, so its answers are accurate and up to date.

ℹ️ Note: Your assistant can only see and change what you can see and change in Legatics. Connecting an assistant never gives it extra access. Write access is optional, and your System Admin can keep a connection read-only.

Use cases

Reading: understanding where a matter stands

Your assistant can read your lists, documents and statuses to answer questions, summarise progress and point out anything that's outstanding or overdue.

How Legatics helps

  • Instant summaries. Get an overview of a matter without opening every list.

  • Spot what's outstanding. Ask which items are open, who owns them and what's running late.

  • Turn data into updates. Ask your assistant to draft a client update, a partner briefing or a chaser email based on the live position.

Example prompts

  • "Summarise the current status of [matter name]."

  • "Which conditions precedent are still outstanding, and who owns them?"

  • "Draft a chaser email to each party with their open items on the closing agenda."

In practice

Before a client call, a corporate lawyer can ask for a summary of where completion stands. A banking lawyer can check which conditions precedent are still open ahead of a funding date, then ask the assistant to draft chasers to the borrower's counsel.

Writing: keeping Legatics up to date

If your firm has turned on write access, your assistant can make changes in Legatics for you, so you can keep lists current without switching between tools.

How Legatics helps

  • Update as you work. Change statuses and owners as documents arrive or responsibilities shift.

  • Set up lists quickly. Create a new list and add rows from a document or a description.

  • Get ready for signing. Add parties and mark documents for signing as closing approaches.

Example prompts

  • "Mark the board minutes as received and assign the legal opinion to [name]."

  • "Create a conditions precedent list from the conditions in this facility agreement."

  • "Mark all documents in the signing section for signing and add the borrower as a party."

In practice

A finance lawyer can mark conditions precedent as satisfied as documents come in, without leaving their assistant. A restructuring lawyer can turn a structure paper into a steps plan in Legatics in a few moments.
