Previewing a binder index

Double-check your layout, style, and formatting settings before generating the binder

Updated over a week ago

Before you generate the full binder, you can preview how your index will look based on the configurations you've applied. This gives you a quick way to check that your configurations - like style, template and formatting - appear the way you want them to without needing to generate the full binder.

Prerequisites: You have edit permission on the binder

How to preview

Once your index settings are configured, select the Preview button. Your index will open in a new tab. You can then download it as a docx file to your computer if you need.

Your exported file will be named: Draft index - {matter_name} - {binder_name} {dd mmmm yyyy @ hh_mm)

Things to keep in mind

  1. Complete binder not shown: The preview shows only the index - not the complete binder. To get the complete binder, you need to generate it.

  2. "Refer to" won't preview: If you’ve set Refer to as Page number and chosen Single PDF as your binder file type, the previewed index will only show the document number. Page numbers can’t be previewed because they’re only added during full PDF generation.

  3. Links won't work: The index preview will show hyperlinks, these won't take you anywhere as there is nowhere to go! To get these links to work you need to generate the binder.

  4. Updating your binder settings: If you update any settings, click Preview again to see those changes reflected.

Next step

When everything looks right, you’re ready to generate the binder file so it can be exported.
