Setting permissions in binder helps you control who can view, edit, or manage data in each binder. This article sets out the permissions available.
Tip: If you're a Matter Admin, you can view the matter as another user to check if permissions are applied correctly
Good to know: When you're applying permissions in your binder, there are tooltips to explain what different permissions do.
Permissions available
Permissions in binders are simpler than list permissions. Unlike list permissions, where permissions are applied at different levels (eg on the list or items inside the list, like rows or columns), binder permissions are only applied at the binder level.
Good to know: That means permissions can't be applied to sections or documents. If you need to do this, you'll have to duplicate the binder and then remove any content the participant shouldn’t see.

Edit permission
Users with edit permission have full access to setup a binder, including adding or removing sections and documents, and change binder settings such as the index or format of the binder. They can also generate and export the binder.
View permission
Users with view permission can browse the binder’s structure and view documents within it, but they can't make any changes to the binder. Once the binder is generated, they can export it.

Permission interactions
Permissions in binders interact with different parts of the platform. The possible interactions, and their impact, are set out below
Between binders and lists
There are no interactions. Just because a participant can't see a file in a list doesn't mean they won't be able to see it in a binder (and vice versa).
With the participant hierarchy
See this article, to understand how permissions interact with the participant hierarchy.
With permissions on organisations
See this article, to understand how this permission interacts with permissions in the binder.
