Deal types

Learn how to set up and manage deal types to enhance transaction oversight and reporting

Effectively managing your organization's deal types in Legatics provides valuable insights into transaction activities and adoption trends. This guide outlines the steps to add, edit, and delete deal types, as well as how to utilize deal types for comprehensive reporting.

Tip: Matter creators must select a deal type when creating a matter. This list is what they select from!


Deal types page

The deal types page lists all the deal types you've added to your environment. It lets you take actions on deal types and understand how many matters with those deal types have been created.

Tip: More detailed information about matters is available in the Matters Report.

Getting to the deal types page

  1. Log into Legatics

  2. Click on your profile in the top right of the page

  3. Select Admin System

  4. From the left sidebar, press Firm > Deal types

Data available

The following data is visible in the deal types page

Note: Deal types are by default sorted:

  • A–Z by category

    • A>Z by deal type

The name of the deal type

Matters

Number of matters that use this deal type.


Managing categories

Categories helps you organize related deal types into logical groups, making it easier to keep your data structured and consistent. By grouping similar categories together, you can simplify setup, improve reporting accuracy, and make it easier for users to select the right deal type when creating a matter.

Add category

  1. Click + Category at the top right of the screen

  2. Enter a name for the category

  3. Click Add

The category will be added, and the deal types page will update to reflect A–Z order.

Rename category

  1. Click the ⋮ menu next to the category you want to rename

  2. Select Rename in the drop-down

  3. Change the name of the category in the pop-up that appears

  4. Press Save

The category will be renamed, and the deal types page will update to reflect A–Z order.

Delete category

Good to know: You can't delete a category until all deal types inside it have been moved to another category or deleted

  1. Click the ⋮ menu next to the category you want to rename

  2. Select Delete in the drop-down

The category will be deleted, and the deal types page will update to reflect A–Z order.


Managing deal types

Deal types define the specific kinds of matters your organisation handles and are grouped within categories for better organisation. Each category can contain multiple deal types, helping you structure your data in a way that mirrors your real-world processes. This nested setup makes it easier for users to find and select the correct deal type when creating a matter.

Add deal type

  1. Click the ⋮ menu next to the category you want to add a deal type to

  2. Select Add deal type

  3. Enter the deal type name

  4. Click Add deal type

Tip: Check the box Add another deal type to add multiple deal types at once

Rename deal type

  1. Click the ⋮ menu next to the deal type you want to update

  2. Click Edit

  3. Enter a new name

  4. Click Save

Change deal type category

  1. Click the ⋮ menu next to the deal type you want to update

  2. Click Edit

  3. Update the category

  4. Click Save

Merge deal type

If you have duplicate or similar deal types, you can merge them. To do this:

  1. Click the ⋮ menu next to the deal type you want to remove

  2. Select Merge

  3. Choose the deal type you want to merge into

  4. Press Merge to start the merge process

All matters assigned to the merged deal type will automatically update to reflect the deal type it was merged into.

Delete deal type

  1. Click the ⋮ menu next to the deal type you want to remove

  2. Select Delete

  3. Select a deal type to assign matters with this deal type to

  4. Press Delete to confirm deletion

Warning: Once deleted, a deal type can't be recovered.
