Information request list

Learn how to send structured requests for documents and information, and see at a glance what's been provided

An information request list lets you send structured requests for documents and information, and track what's been provided and what's still missing.

The challenge

Information requests are usually sent as a Word document, with responses coming back as a stream of email attachments. Matching each attachment to the right request takes time, and it's hard to see what's still outstanding.

How Legatics helps

Upload directly against each request

The person providing the information can upload documents straight against the relevant request. There's no need to match email attachments to requests by hand.

See gaps instantly

Statuses show which requests have been fulfilled, which are partly answered and which are still outstanding. Filter by status to chase what's missing.

Protect sensitive information

Permissions mean each person only sees the requests that relate to them. This is especially useful when you're collecting personal or confidential information from several people.

Start from a template

If your team uses a standard request list, save it as a list template and reuse it on every new matter.

How different practice areas use it

Mergers and acquisitions

An initial information request list can be sent to the seller at the start of due diligence, with documents provided directly against each request. Once a document has been added to the data room, its status can be updated to show it's been provided.

Employment

At the start of a matter, the client can upload contracts, policies and personnel files directly against each request, rather than sending them by email.

Restructuring

When you need evidence to support a waiver or consent request, such as board minutes, financial statements or compliance certificates, the client can provide it straight into the list.

Financial services regulation

Information about the people and companies acquiring control of a regulated firm is often sensitive. Permissions let each controller, or their overseas counsel, see and upload only their own information.
