A comprehensive guide to understanding key terms in Legatics, helping you navigate the platform and its features with ease

Updated over a week ago

Legatics uses specific terminology to describe its features and workflows, ensuring clarity and consistency across the platform. This guide explains key terms you’ll encounter, grouped by their functional areas, to help you understand and navigate Legatics with confidence.

Platform

This covers terms related to the structure and environment of the Legatics platform. Understanding these terms is essential for navigating the technical setup and instances of the platform.

Instance

An instance is a separate, independent installation of Legatics. Each instance has its own URL and user base, can have one or more environments, and matters aren't shared across instances. Learn more about instances here.

Environment

An environment refers to customer's space within an instance. Each customer’s environment is unique, and stores their matters and includes customized settings and integrations.

Matter

A matter is the workspace inside an environment where transactional data is stored and managed. Access to matters is controlled by the Matter Admin.

User

A user is anyone with a Legatics account, enabling them to access and interact with the platform. Users can be assigned roles and permissions, determining what actions they can perform and what information they can view.

Environment-level roles

These roles determine what actions users can take on a customer's environment.

Member

A member is a user who belongs to a customer. Users can only become members if their email domain matches a domain provided by the customer. When a match is found, the user is automatically assigned as a member of that customer when they create their account.

Guest

A guest is a user who isn't a Member and has access to one or more of the customer's matters.

Note: The terms "Guest" and "Member" are relative and depend on the specific customer. You can be a Member of one customer while being a Guest of another

System Admin

The system admin is a Member who has permission to access the Administration System and manage their customer's environment specific settings.

Template Admin

The template admin is a Member who has permission from the System Admin to manage list templates and matter templates for their customer's environment.

Matter-level roles

These roles determine what actions users can take inside a matter.

Matter Admin

The matter admin is a user with full read and edit rights for all the data in a matter. They are responsible managing the matter. Learn more about what they do here.

Participant

A participant is anyone invited by a Matter Admin to a matter. Participants can be granted different permissions by Matter Admins in matters, which determines what actions they can take, and what data they can see.
